Adjustable red table or wall light designed by Floris Fiedeldij for Artimeta in ca. 1956; very beautiful due to its simplicity. The red shade is partly perforated, creating a nice light effect. Considering its age this lamp is still in good condition, normal traces of use and wear. The wiring has been checked. Source:
Artimeta 1956 catalogue. Nice detail is that Mathieu Matégot also designed many things for Artimeta in that period and most likely had an influence on the perforated cap on the back of the shade.
Floris H. Fiedeldij was a small entrepreneur who, for several decades, managed to convert his talent for designing furniture and lighting objects, trained at the Hague Academy of Visual Arts and the Delft University of Technology, into a reasonably well-stocked sandwich. - (source: Kunstbus)
Artimeta was founded by Floris H. Fiedeldij in 1960. Artimeta produced luxury lighting and furniture. Also French designer Mathieu Matégot created several items for Artimeta. Most products were sold in Germany. About 15 people worked for the company. Because Artimeta was booming, Fiedeldij was searching for investors.
Through Mr. W. H. Fockema, a banker, he met Mr. Schoon, director of Transcarbo, a subsidiary of the Oranje Nassau Mines in Heerlen.
A few months later it all went in the wrong direction. The ex-miners, however well-intentioned, could barely handle the fine materials and screws. Customers started to complain about the long waiting times and poor workmanship.
Fiedeldij was confronted with an unimaginable bureaucracy. For example, an order for 1000 screws had to be initialled by 10 people before anything happened.
After he went to complain to the management of Orange Nassau was Fiedeldij dismissed. A little later the factory was closed and transferred to Heerlen.
Only five people were still working and only lamps were imported from Germany and Italy. They no longer produced lamps themselves. The company imported lamps made by Vistosi, Venini, Stilnovo, Martinelli Luce and several other famous companies.
In 1975, Fiedeldij wrote in a bitter letter: “In summary, it can be concluded that an Italian lamp factory is kept alive with Dutch government subsidy and that a Dutch company, which could employ at least 35 people, due to mismanagement has been grounded by the subsidized company in question.”
As the “Het Vrije Volk” newspaper emphasized in the title: A Brabant manufacturer receives an attractive offer. Oranje Nassau takes over his thriving company and says it wants to expand for employment. But the dream is soon over: production was deliberately killed. (viintage info.be)
Attention to detail and to the customer
Because we sell objects worldwide, our service principle is to fit the correct plug to your lamp. Our lamps are standard equipped with a European (EU) plug. You can also choose to have an American (US) or an English (UK) plug fitted (free of charge). You can choose this option at the top of the product page in the dropdown menu “plug type”. If you do not make a choice, the lamp comes with an EU plug.
Packaging with care and love
Our usually irreplaceable items are often very fragile and must therefore be packaged and shipped with the special care they deserve! We only use shipping materials that are suitable for international shipping. Your object will be rolled in soft foam or bubble wrap and then packed in a well-fitting inner box. The whole is then placed in an extra sturdy cardboard outer box. The space around the inner box is filled with air cushions and/or Styrofoam to further secure your package against outside violence. In this way we try to do everything we can to prevent damage from occurring during transport so that you can enjoy your purchase as it was intended. Fast and Free Worldwide Shipping, all orders ship within 1-3 business days.
Your shipment is always insured as standard up to 500 euros. For more expensive lamps, I increase the insurance to the amount of the lamp. So if the package is lost or damaged during shipping, there is nothing to worry about. You will always receive a new product or you will be fully reimbursed for your purchase amount. Please read terms and conditions for the insurance!
Upon receipt, the damage must be reported within 7 days, otherwise we can no longer make a claim with the insurance (condition of PostNL). The insurance only pays out in the event of damage if it can be demonstrated that the item was properly packaged. In the event of damage, I will ask you for some photos of the packaging and of the product itself to demonstrate to the insurance company that the product was properly packaged. So please always keep the packaging until the photos have been sent. For parcels sent outside the EU, the insurance company also asks for a damage report. You should request this report from your post office. Damage Report: The consignee must bring the damaged contents, box and all packaging materials to the post office on site to have this report prepared. Unfortunately, your request cannot be processed without this report.
