Louis Christiaan Kalff (Amsterdam, November 14, 1897 - Waalre, September 16, 1976)
Louis Kalff was a pioneering industrial designer in the Netherlands in the first half of the 20th century. With a solid background, including studies in sculpture, ceramics, furniture design and architecture, he started working for the Philips consumer electronics marketing division in 1924.
In 1929 he started a lighting product design department (LIBU - Lighting Consultancy) Louis Kalff was responsible for the lighting departments of the World Exhibitions in Barcelona, Antwerp and Paris.
As a freelancer he also designed posters and advertisements for the Holland America Line, Calvé, Zeebad Scheveningen, Holland Radio and others. Louis Kalff also designed book covers. After the Second World War, Kalff was active in industrial design for Philips. After his retirement in 1960, Louis Kalff remained at Philips as a consultant and architect. In 1961 he was given the direction and implementation of the Evoluon building in Eindhoven. It was the last work of the light architect who worked for the Philips group for almost forty years.
Royal Philips N.V.
Inspired by the rapidly growing electricity industry and the promising results of Gerard Philips' own experiments to make reliable carbon wires, Frederik Philips (his father) financed the purchase of a modest factory in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in 1891. Frederik Philips was a Jewish banker based in Zaltbommel.
In 1895, after a difficult first four years and near bankruptcy, Anton Philips joined the company. He was Gerard's younger brother. With the arrival of Anton, the family business began to expand rapidly. The brothers changed their family business by founding the company Philips. They laid the foundation for the later electronics multinational.
One day before the German invasion of the Netherlands on May 9, 1940, the Philips family fled to the United States of America, taking a large part of the company's capital with them.
Operating from the US as the North American Philips Company, they managed to run the company throughout the war. After the Second World War, the company moved back to the Netherlands, with its headquarters in Eindhoven.
Attention to detail and to the customer
Because we sell objects worldwide, our service principle is to fit the correct plug to your lamp. Our lamps are standard equipped with a European (EU) plug. You can also choose to have an American (US) or an English (UK) plug fitted (free of charge). You can choose this option at the top of the product page in the dropdown menu “plug type”. If you do not make a choice, the lamp comes with an EU plug.
Packaging with care and love
Our usually irreplaceable items are often very fragile and must therefore be packaged and shipped with the special care they deserve! We only use shipping materials that are suitable for international shipping. Your object will be rolled in soft foam or bubble wrap and then packed in a well-fitting inner box. The whole is then placed in an extra sturdy cardboard outer box. The space around the inner box is filled with air cushions and/or Styrofoam to further secure your package against outside violence. In this way we try to do everything we can to prevent damage from occurring during transport so that you can enjoy your purchase as it was intended. Fast and Free Worldwide Shipping, all orders ship within 1-3 business days.
Your shipment is always insured as standard up to 500 euros. For more expensive lamps, I increase the insurance to the amount of the lamp. So if the package is lost or damaged during shipping, there is nothing to worry about. You will always receive a new product or you will be fully reimbursed for your purchase amount. Please read terms and conditions for the insurance!
Upon receipt, the damage must be reported within 7 days, otherwise we can no longer make a claim with the insurance (condition of PostNL). The insurance only pays out in the event of damage if it can be demonstrated that the item was properly packaged. In the event of damage, I will ask you for some photos of the packaging and of the product itself to demonstrate to the insurance company that the product was properly packaged. So please always keep the packaging until the photos have been sent. For parcels sent outside the EU, the insurance company also asks for a damage report. You should request this report from your post office. Damage Report: The consignee must bring the damaged contents, box and all packaging materials to the post office on site to have this report prepared. Unfortunately, your request cannot be processed without this report.
