Eighties robot Desk lamp 'Osqar' Ygnacio Baranga for Kumade Hong Kong
This is Osqar. A table lamp and sculptural light object from 1985 designed by Ygnacio Baranga. Osqar was only produced in limited edition so is becoming rarer to purchase. This is the original old model with the peaked base (With the label 'Osqar' on the bottom.
Osqar is a well sized figure that can be adjusted to any position for its many copper hinges. These hinges can be loosened and tightened with a small Allen wrench. Feet, knees, hips, arms, spine, hands, shoulders and neck are all flexible. In his head, Osqar holds a 20W halogen lamp, while his hands hold both a mirror and a piece of frosted glass to redirect or refract the light. The transformer for the lamp is in the black base, which also has a chrome pin that Osqar can sit or stand on.
As you can see from the picture, Osqar can do many different things. Osqar does yoga if you want, or he poses around the room. He can also sit down to take a good look at himself in one of his mirrors. Osqar is a vain type but that's okay with his looks!
In good vintage condition, the brass hinges and his brass feet are discolored by time. If you want, this can easily be polished up again with copper polish for a shiny (new) look. I leave this up to the buyer whether or not this is desired.
José Ignacio Alvarez Baranga of Jialba was born in Sobradelo, Galicia, Spain, June 29, 1961. He lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. He is a self-taught designer in perpetual learning.
In his own words: Every day is a miracle that reveals me. My sponsors are meetings, teachers, friends and I thank them. They give birth to their desires through the wise listening I give them on records. I truly believe we are bound by everything and everyone and I never stop expressing it.
My journey is a game of expressions, a kind of alienation where the opponent is none other than myself. My being is liberated by the inescapable need to believe as I breathe.
Digital works are an important part of my work. I photograph painted works in progress that I merge with other photographs. The results are new compositions from the unconscious, made of multiple layers superimposed and crossed by the same light.
In these realizations we travel between materials and spirituality, where there is an alchemy of dreams that encourages us to reconnect with our souls.
Little is also known about the manufacturer Kumade. Kumade is a Chinese lamp manufacturer based in Hong Kong (how wonderfully mysterious this is huh) if anyone has more info I would love to hear about it!
Attention to detail and to the customer
Because we sell objects worldwide, we have as a customer service that we mount the correct plug on your lamp. Our lamps come standard with a European(EU) plug. You can also choose to have an American(US) or an English(UK) plug fitted (free of charge). You can choose this option at the top of the product page in the dropdown menu "type of plug" If you do not make a choice the lamp will come with an EU plug.
Packing with care and love
Our mostly irreplaceable items are often very fragile and therefore need to be packed and shipped with the special care they deserve!
We use only shipping materials suitable for international shipping.
Your item is rolled in soft foam or bubble wrap and then packed in a well-fitting inner box. It is then placed in an extra sturdy outer cardboard box. The space around the inner box is filled with air cushions and/or Styrofoam to further secure your package against outside force. In this way, we try to make every effort to prevent any damage from occurring during transportation so that you can enjoy your purchase as it was intended.
Fast and free worldwide shipping, all orders are shipped within 1-3 business days.
Your shipment is always insured by default up to 500 euros. For more expensive lamps, I increase the insurance to the amount of the lamp. So if the package gets lost or damaged during shipping there is nothing to worry about. You will always get a new product or a full refund.
The insurance will only pay for damage if it can be shown that the item was well packed. In case of damage I will ask you for some pictures of the packaging and of the product itself to prove to the insurance that the product was well packed. So please always keep the packaging until the photos are sent.
For packages sent outside the EU, the insurance company will also ask for a damage report. You should request this report from your post office.
Damage report: the addressee must bring the damaged contents, box and all packing material to the post office on site to have this report prepared. Unfortunately, your claim cannot be processed without this report.
